Offset Concave "washer" in front of cam gear?

What's it for?

Why is it drilled off center?

Is it needed? Maybe some sort of oil silnger?

If needed, I assume orientation is not important?

Engine is a mid 70's 460, replaced cam and timing set, just curious about this piece?

Thanks

it's the fuel pump drive eccentric, if your aren't going to run a mechanical fuel pump on the motor ever then no it's not neccesary (but a washer of some type is or the bolt won't hold the cam gear on, and a hardened thick washer is best)

You da man!

So what keeps it located? Just Cam bolt torque?

TQ and there is a small notch/pin the rests in the cam gear. The ecentric is a two piece design so the fuel pump doesn't wear in half.

I see the notch in the cam gear, but the back (facing gear) side is smooth as a babies behind on the eccentric.

Do you have the thing in your hands? It should consist of two parts, an inner non rotating center and the outer rotating race that the fuel pump arm rests on. There should be a tang that fits inside the cam gear hole. It looks like the one in the picture.

Yes,

I have it in my hand, it's one piece though, and only one hole (offset hole) in it.

In fact, on the cam facing side I can see the marks left from the notches in the cam gear.

I guess it's possible someone was in here before, but with the amount of slop that the timing chain had, I don't know what they did..certainly wasn't to replace the chain

Well you now have the ordering info if you want to buy it from them. Just be aware that there is a $10.95 handling charge so check locally with the dealership/ auto parts store for that and the cam thrust plate since that is probably bad as well.

Thanks for the info!

I mic'ed the thrust plate from the shiny to the dull finsh, and there was less wear than my Mic could really pick up.

Thanks again.

My eccentric on my 77 460 doesn't look anything like the one you guys posted from Summit. I attached one that looks something like mine but I don't remember two holes in it. It just has the one offset hole and is a one piece unit. You just bolt it to the cam and torque it down. Where it ends up is where it is.

That looks more like mine...i/e the thicker material and also without the 2nd hole.

Reading through some other sites I saw reference to using a "one piece eccentric" as well.

Thanks for confirmation!

Yea, I am pretty sure you have the same one as mine. My engine now has over 200k on it with the same eccentric so I don't see a problem.
