Just when I get on here and talk about dumping money into it for performance, wouldnt you know it, it starts acting up again. Got into the truck to go into town. Truck started right up, but then the engine starts to " buck" for lack of better words for you technical people. Best way to describe it is like you are getting on and off the pedal making the truck buck like a bull. Hit the pedal and run it up to 2000 rpm's for about 5 seconds and it starts running right. It has done this off and on in the past. Usually once every 3 months or so. Replaced the fuel pump and cps about a month ago. I have ran approx. 160 gal. of diesel through it since then with no problems. Any thoughts?
pulled any codes? if none come up being intermittant my guess is first check your main harness where it runs across the left valve cover, that is your main chafe point right at the connector, hang on new thought, does this only happen on first startup? like a rolling surge from idle to about 1500 or so? if thats the case i need a little more info. is it cold where your at? how long did the truck sit? any tailpipe smoke while this happens? if your not sure then the next time this happens hurry up and unplug your icp sensor and see if it goes away, i believe this may be your problem if this is a cold start issue, also if it goes away, check the connector she may be corroded as well, get back to me with a bit more info.
Would you describe the issue as like loping idle? like its going from normal idle to really low idle quickly. If you have ever been to tractor pulls sometimes they have a lope idle. Like a huge cam in a gas engine maybe?
your trans range sensor makes your trucks buck? while driving or idling on start-up? the way i read his problem was right on start-up. i've had the range sensor cause harsh shifts and improper gear choices but never what he is described, i am quite intriuged, more info on your trucks please

Yes basicly this is what it is doing. It drives normal otherwise. The last time it did something similar to this was when the drain plug fell out of the oil pan while driving down the road. Truck obviously shut down, but after I did what we call around here a "samsula oil change" and started her back up she did this exact same thing for about two days and then quit. So today I checked the oil and it was low. I added two quarts to bring it back up to normal. Wondering if the low oil would make it do this again.
2 quarts shouldn't cause any issue. They will run 9 quarts low (Customers truck not mine!) My truck does it bad but it is still very intermittant. Next time it does it shift to neutral. If it stop then replace the trans range selector sensor

I didnt think that two quarts would cause it, but Im new to the diesel world. Im gonna go try it now and see if it stops when I shift to neutral. Will get back in a sec.
will the idle smooth out if you don't touch the gas petal? mine does it as well and it is normal as far as i've heard and seen with these trucks. try the icp then let us know.
