this is just a question out of curiousity, but is there any advantage of having a 351 over a 302 or vice versa? mileage is close enough it wouldnt seem to matter, so why would you go for a smaller engine over a bigger one?
302s are great Mustang motors and 351s are great truck motors. The 351 will have power in the low rpms which is what you need for a truck. The 302s will fit in a truck, but they won't do what a truck should. The both have the same features and vary only by the 3.5" stroke in the 351 and 3" stroke in the 302. That 1/2" makes all the difference in the world.
Gas milage and parts are the same for both. The 302s were made by the boatload and were sold to guys that wanted to say that their truck was a V8. The 351s are what are in the work trucks. I am pretty sure that 302s were never offered in 250s and up. That should say something.
