I need to change my engine and my father wont let me try and fix the 351 or buy another one so i have to put a 302 in will it work?

351 to 302

Depends, do you have a 351 mod., winsor, or cevland there are 3 types of 351's. I think that a 302 has the same tanny bolt patten, the Winsor has the same pattern but if it is a 351mod. then you need a new tranny(auto) or bell (manual) to work

you cant change just a bell housing on a automatic tranny?

351 to 302

79 F150 most likely came with a 351M, and as posted above the 302 will not exchange in as a boltup. You will have to exchange either the bell or the tranny if it is an auto, as well as the engine perches.

You didn't state why your father is holding the line on that, I can imagine that he wants less power and is trying to keep you around, to grow older.

well we got the 302 in our basement and the 351 is junk and he doesnt wanna buy a new one or fix the other one

351 to 302

Sell the 302 and use the money to buy a 351 rebuild kit. Or get a crate 351M for about $700 exchange and have the heads done. Easy and you get a new motor. You must change tranny also for the 302. I just don't see the logic behind it though.
