Power seats??????

Does anybody here have any experience with power seats? I have an '02 Lincoln Continental and the drivers seat has become slow to go forward and back for a couple of months now and now has stopped moving at all. When you operate the forward / back switch it does not move and you can hear a clicking sound from under the seat, kind of like a stripped gear.
Took the seat off and WOW! What a nightmare of motors, gears, shafts and wiring. looks like to repair this thing I would have to replace the whole mechanical assembly.

Any help would be appreciated. Is there any trouble shooting info on line or anyone with experience willing to help?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Motor became worn out, the clicking is probably just a relay. If you need to move it to a better position, push the seat in the wanted direction while pushing the switch.

Thanks rebocardo. The seat does not want to move even when pushing it. I just got back from the Ford dealer here in town and found they have to order the whole track assembly. Costs about $350.00. Relay or whatever causes the clicking is not working now either.

I am driving to Tulsa monday for our vacation and I guess I will worry about it when we get back

Thanks again

Steve

You are welcome.

Maybe overheated and blown a fuse?

Seats in Fords are usually "live" all the time.

You should have power to the switch.

One thing you might check (actually not knowing what yours looks like) from past experience is separating (disconnect battery or fuse) the switch from the connector and seeing if gunk got on the copper traces (they are usually about 1/8" - 1/4" wide). Either food or rainwater. There are various ways to clean them, a gum eraser works okay.

Make two -FUSED- 15 amp ATC (square) test leads. One + and one - Directly jump from the power side of the connector to the motor wires. See if the seat moves. Try to eliminate the switch itself as a cause.

For $350 I would make certain it is the motor.
