my wife's 2006 Explorer has the power drivers seat that automatically moves back when you turn the car on or off for easy exit/entry. It moved to the back position and now will not move forward. It has power, goes up or down and tilts but it will not move forward to the pre-selected setting. Since she has to have it forward to reach the pedals this is a problem. I am somewhat handy with cars but not much good with electrical issues. Does anyone have an idea of what I should look for?
I'd check to see if there is something under the seat blocking it from moving forward. If you have the truck in a fairly dark place, open the driver's door and try to move the seat forward do the interior lights dim? If so, the motor is trying to move the seat but stalling, likely due to something in the seat track or lodged under the seat.
Since you mention "will not move forward to the pre-selected setting" are you saying it won't move back on its own, but will move with the button? If that's the case, rather than the button not working, this might be a simple issue of a previous owner having programmed the key fob to their seating position. You can associate individual fobs with programmed seating positions. For example, if you both drive the truck often and she is programmed to memory position 1 and you are programmed to position 2, you can associate her fob to position 1 and yours to position 2. That way when she uses her fob to unlock the door, the seat, side mirrors, and adjustable pedals will move to position 1 when the door is closed and key turned to Run. When you use your fob to unlock the door the same will happen, but the seat, side mirrors, and adjustable pedals will move to memory position 2. Did you two switch fobs by chance?
the seat did move backward when you turn the key off and moves to the back position to make it easy for exit, then when you get in, it is supposed to move to one of the selected positions. This vehicle has 2 preprogramed positions selectable by a switch on dash. These keys aren't associated with a setting like my 300C is. The seat moves up and down via the switch but won't move forward. Since it is in the rear position, I can't check to see if it will move forward. I looked underneath to make sure nothing was stuck. I will try the switch while it is in the garage to see if the light dims. thanks
