I'm looking for parts for my 75 F-100 4wd Explorer frame. They are a set of plates on the inside of the frame right in the area above the differential, and right under the shock towers. I've noticed that other similar trucks do not even have them, but mine does and the ones on it are pretty eaten up. Any idea what these are even called?

D3TZ-5B055-A .. Frame Reinforcement-Right
D3TZ-5B055-B .. Frame Reinforcment-Left
These are shaped: \____/ and bolt to the frame. Bolted to these plates is an L shaped bracket that has a rubber rebound bumper mounted to it.
I figure, if they were put there, then they should be there. I thought the same thing as you did. That is part of the frame that gets the most stress so they are just there to add the extra support. IF you don't do any off roading or anything with the truck, no need for them. But, since you have them, why not put them back in.
There for looks? LOL I can see the Ford engineers talking now.."let's dress up the frame a bit by spending $$$$ to develop a flanged bracket just for the heck of it." That would cause 'ol penny pinching Henry Ford to spin even faster in his grave!
Why are they there, and what are they for, and are they necessary? Those plates (D3TZ-5B055-A/B) bolt to the frame, as previously stated. Then an L shaped bracket (C5TZ-4731-B) bolts to the plates, and a rebound bumper (C5TZ-4730-B) for the rear axle bolts to the L shaped bracket. This is 4X4 only.
