It was my understanding that only Ford sold the Tranny oil for their the powerstroke trannies and that is the only oil approved for them.
NO????
Yes and no. Yes only Motorcraft SP is available for the Troqshift, but no Ford is not the only one that sells it. Kmans and Dieselfilters online sell the stuff much cheaper than a dealership can.
Just make sure the shipping is added in when shopping at Kmans. They have a low price for the fluid but they are very high on shipping. I would rather shop at dieselfiltersonline (site sponsor). In the past, I have been able to talk the Ford dealership into a 20% discount when I owned 3 Ford vehicles and told them I would rather buy local than off the internet. This may be worth a try.
i thought k-mans was reasonable i think i paid $52.00 for 10 qts... not bad? i drained the pan and refilled, took about 7.5 qts to get it just right!!!
KMans advertises Mercon SP for $3.86 per quart. Shipping takes it to $5.20 per quart. My Ford dealership sells it for $4.50 per quart plus tax - $4.87 total. Probably not enough to make an issue of, but just seems like the $3.86 advertised price is misleading.
Anyone have a trick to get the external filter off? I put the 22mil socket on the damn thing with a breaker bar and for the life of me it wouldn't budge...and yes I did lefty loosey...I felt like I was going to break the mount...thinking of trying to break it loose with an impact gun .....I seem to get blessed with the stupid problems....
Well, in talking to a local Ford Service tech, I was advised: change the filters (2) BETWEEn 35,000 and 40,000 miles. Every 40,000 miles after that X2, just BACKFLUSH the tranny system. Then start the process all over.
There's no way to backflush a transmission. You can flush a transmission, but not backflush it. The pump acts like a check valve, so fluid can't run backwards through the trans.
