bwep,I my supercrew is an XLT it doesn't have the vent's in the back of the console I wish it did.I've also heard claim's that the 04's were undercharged which is why I tryed to get the dealer to add some freon to it when it was under warranty but had no luck.I'll probably just do it myself and see if that help's it if I keep it but I've been thinking about trading up to an F250.I bought a 96 acre farm about a month ago and I need more payload and a bigger bed.
I stopped at my dealer after work and it was 90 deg. out and they put a thermometer in the vent and read 39 deg. They said well within specs. I am taking the truck to Myrtle Beach on the 9th and wanted to be sure it was cooling as it should. Wife's 1996 Taurus still feels colder on hot days.
My A/C was adequate, but I took it to the Dealership and complained that my A/C was running 61 degrees in the vent hose. Actually it was running 57 degrees using a A/C stem probe thermometer. My Dealer colored my Freon, slipped in two "O" rings, topped off the Freon against my warranty and now my A/C in the vent hose runs 40 degrees.
The 40 degrees comes well after all vent hoses have reached max coolness. The thermometer temp is relative to the vent hoses which is relative to the temp of the overall cab. Now I use the on/off button to shut down the A/C when it gets too cold, letting the cool air vent over the coils for a bit. This on/off also aids the engine during the hotter weather.
Thank's wheel I've been wanting land like this for year's and It finally fell into my lap about a month ago. It's in the same area that I grew up just a little further out in the boonie's which is what I wanted,I'm going to have to sell my house I live in now and build a new one out there. It has a nice barn on it and a equipment shed a pond,a cabin with out on the backside hilltop with outhouse, and an old farmhouse that's ready for a trackhoe and a match.I hate to sell my 150 because in about 6 month's it'll be paidoff but I honestly need a bigger truck now,I've used it to move several piece's of equipment and it did the job but i'm glad I wasn't going very far.I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis or for long distance.Sound's like i'm making a good case for a f250.lol
I tried an old trick I used to use when repairing reefers. I used Wesley's Bleech White and sprayed the condensor. Using a soft bristle brush, I scrubbed the front surface to clean the road grime from the coils. I then used a garden hose to rinse it. The difference in register temp after cleaning was approx. 12F. One thing I forgot was to spray the condensor when it was cool or cold to prevent the Bleech White from evaporating before I could scrub it. Having seen the results, I also cleaned my tranny cooler this way. Can't hurt.
Mine works great. Of course my last truck, a single cab, froze you out! My newer supercrew takes longer to cool, but so far is working great. As far as terrible ACs, I have never had a problem with Ford. I think Dodge has the worst ACs
my Screw blows ice cold air. and I've got the rear vents in my console as well. my 3 yr old has a blanket that she uses the cover up when the a/c is running. While the truck doesn't cool down as fast as the Mustang, it definately blows alot colder.
My 94 F-150 did blow colder than the 06 does though. On that 302 though, it would bog down something fierce when the A/C clutch was engaged. Makes me think the A/C compressor was a little oversized on the 92-96 models. My 03 Mustang has a notieceable power loss also when A/C is on. My 06 F-150 barely notices the A/C is on. Only true indicator is the lower MPG.
Gentlemen,
I have found some of the problems relating to the A/C are not necessarily freon, or mental. Rather they have to do with the doors on the A/C box not moving or sealing like they should. I live in Houston, and A/C is a necessity. My 04 screw has had the main airflow door servo replaced once, and now it is hanging up or getting ready to let go again. I have to run the temp all the way up to 90, than all the way back down to get the A/c to work. Very frustrating. Will not work in between at all.
I just found out mine has a leak in the high pressure line between the comp. and condensor. I hope the dealer has the part because I'm taking the truck on vacation in 3 days. Also, thank goodness for used vehicle warranties.
