it is about even with the outside temp, if it is cool outside the a/c should be a little hotter, I think that is what they came up with when I brought mine in a couple of times. it should be around 39 I think.
It will depend a lot on relative humidity. (values for a 'good' system) 90F intake temperature, at 80%RH, I would expect close to 60F out. At 30% RH, I would expect closer to 43-44F out. You probably won't see either of these setting at a stop light, but cruising down the highway with good airflow and good RPM's, it should hit pretty close.
Using the 'recirculate' air control will help a lot, too. You are reducing the apparent temp and humidity of the inlet air by circulating the air in the cab as opposed to pulling in hot, humid outside air.

I stopped at my dealer after work and it was 90 deg. out and they put a thermometer in the vent and read 39 deg. They said well within specs. I am taking the truck to Myrtle Beach on the 9th and wanted to be sure it was cooling as it should. Wife's 1996 Taurus still feels colder on hot days.
It won't get much colder than 39...if it does, you'll have other troubles.
To get 39 degree air out, the evap coil will have to be just a little colder (it can't be 100% thermodynamically efficient!) so it is maybe 34-36 degrees. But if it hits 32F it will start to freeze condensation...the water that normally runs off and forms a puddle under the truck when the AC is on...and the coil will just turn into a big ice block with no air flow. Strange as it sounds, this can actually be a sign of LOW freon. So I would keep an eye on it, but congrats on the icebox for now!
I have a 04 f150 and i've never been satisfied with the performance of the ac,but dealer say's it's within spec. It's the worse than any vehicle i've ever owned. The funny thing is I have a 94 f150 that I bought new that has a 180,000 mile's on it and the ac has never been charged on it and it will freeze you to death,I have not had to do anything other than normal maintenance to the '94.The 04 on the other hand I think will be a big pile of crap by the time it has a 180,000 on it but I don't see me keeping it that long.
I would love to see your statistical analysis to back these claims up.
I have them but the top performers are from Japanese auto makers and I don't beleive this is the proper time or place as you would be giving me another verbal reprimand!! Read evil150 post also he seems to be not very impressed either, FWIW my ford dealer told be that the compressor in the new body style simply isn't large enough but ford isn't going to do anything about it any time soon a lot like the plug issue!!!!!

Reason: Changed "jap." to Japanese

You don't think its a bit harder to keep a supercrew cold, compared to a regular cab? The overall cubic foot volume is drastically different... Id say more than 2x the air mass. You also have to take into account the thermal loss through all of the extra windows you have the in the new truck. I do not think you can compare them apples to apples.

That was a verbal reprimand? I just do not like claims being randomly thrown out, without the backing evidence. If you have the proof, great. Being in business, statistics and numbers are a big deal with me. I have since addressed evil150's post.
