K & N air filter

Does anyone have any info about installing the K & N air filters over & above the obvious. i.e. , on my '91 460 the dealers shop forman suggested I remove the baffels on the filter to increase air flow. I did that & did notice an increase in power towing my 32' 5th wheel. The air box on this new '02 V-10 is considerable larger but havent had it apart yet. Anyone? Thnx

Not sure what you are asking... the V10 and 5.4L engines use a cone-shaped filter. It's a simple swap.

As far as I can tell, there are no baffles anywhere in the air intake plumbing. There is, however, a fiberglass "wall" (radiator support panel) in front of the airbox snorkel. You can cut a hole in this panel so that air can be "forced" into the filter. The effectiveness of this mod has never been proven though.

NoMo:

I drilled several holes in the fiberglass support piece, then decided that it would create a real water intake problem and taped them up. Have you heard of water issues on this mod?

I've done this to my trucks (previous F250 too) and have never had a problem with water injestion. Unless the truck is smacked with a huge wave of water, I don't see how the opening could be a problem. Not only would a water droplet have to be traveling horizontally to enter the air snorkel, but it would have to go UP to get into the filter housing.
