whats the life span on your average injectors?! my van has 247.???.??? miles on it! It has a fultter when I hold a steady speed! and some times dies when it gets below quater of tank!
Its a 93' clubwagon with a 5.8L e40d! new long block!
Fuel injectors don't really wear out but they do get dirty. My van has 260,000+ on it and the injectors are fine. The thing is I have regularly run a bottle to Techron injector cleaner through it to keep the injectors clean.
I would think that your symptoms are a number of issues. If the intake tract hasn't been cleaned I am sure it needs it. Throttle plate, EGR port, injectors, etc... You can take the throttle body off and clean it along with the EGR port. Then a few doses of Techron will clean the injectors, intake valves and clean the cumbustion chamber of carbon buildup. While you are in there, change the fuel filter.
Dieing below 1/4 tank doesn't mean a lot, the tank is long, acceleration/deceleration cause the fuel to rush to rear or front of the tank, away from the pump, injection unlike carb, has no reserve fuel to run off until the fuel gets back to the pump. Fuel pumps get weaker as they age also, you may want to get a pressure reading from the fuel rail to see if it's recieving the correct pressure, be it pump or pressure regulator.
When the engine was replaced, was anything else, like the electronics, and I can't imagine it being installed with a dirty intake and throttle body, so easy to clean when it's out.
I agree with above, change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner, I use Berryman Chemtool in the metal can, or Seafoam in mine, seems to work well, wifes car showed improvement, it had high miles.
I did clean the intake when it was off, i don't think I took apart the throttle body apart though!! some of the elect. parts have been replaced (t.p.s. sensor, map, and coil)
I had heard that when the fuel starts going out! it may cause surages or fluttering! Oh I replaced the fuel filter at least six months ago! I have ran kwik trip fuel cleaners through it but did nothing!!
thanks too all that post!
Spend the extra bucks on the Techron, the cheap injector cleaners really don't do much. With a 38 gallon tank you'll need to use two bottles as one bottle only treats 20 gallons.
Hey that stuff works! it took care of the miss like at steady speeds! but as soon as it hit that quarter tank it started acting up again!could their bee a pin hole or crack in the pick up tube!?
