Interchangable parts

Hi Guys

I'm back!!. I used to visit here a couple of years ago when I had an F350 truck.
I sold the truck a while back, and now I just purchased a 1982 Club Wagon van. I bought it off a guy at work last week ($370), but he needed to use it over the weekend to move house, so I haven't got the van in my posession till tomorrow.
Anyhow, the van needs a bit of work to be up to my standards to drive around in. I got it to use for my detailing business, so it will be repainted and generally tidy'd up to advertise the business.

Things I need for the interior are the 2 front seats, what will fit? F series, SUV, laster model ven, etc?.

For the exterior I need a drivers side door as it is dinged badly and looks like its dropped (have to lift it to close). What years are compatible with this model (1982)?.

All I know of the motor side is that it needs a brake booster and possibly the a/c recharging (does work, just not really cold). It also high idles until you tap the pedal.

Any info on this van (later model upgrades, etc) would be gratefully appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, I tend to ramble on!!

Thanks
Sara Lou

Well I got it home yesterday, spent most of today tearing out the carpet out of the cargo area.
Overall the van is pretty decent and very usable as is. The main problem is the drivers door which has dropped on its hinge. Is there a fix for this?, you have to lift the door as you close it.
Here's a pic of the van anyway:

Looks like a bargain for 370 bucks. I paid 5k for mine. But its a diesel quadravan. There are door pin bushings that you can replace to make your doors latch right again. I havn't done it on mine yet but I bet you can do a search and some info will come up. Or someone else will chime in here about it.

Good luck!

Ok, the doors from 1975 to 1991 are the same from the E100 to the E450. 1992 E250 on up doors will fit. NO F-series door will fit. Front seats same thing. They didn't change at all from '75 to '91 cosmetically. You might even be able to use the newer model seats I don't know I never tried.

Ford no longer supplies the hinge pins, and they are a real pain to change. The hinges are the same 1975/91, and are the same right/left upper.

Old used car dealers trick to fix sagging doors: Get a 5' 2X4, put one end on the ground, the other end on the door sill about midway. Move the door till it touches the board, then push the door up the board a couple of inches, then tighten the hinge. Do not loosen the hinge beforehand.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I'll try that hinge fix trick tomorrow, i'm all for free fixes!!.

The van was a great deal, but I caught the guy just as he really needed money fast.

I have my eye on a set of captains seats for sale locally for $25.00 off of a late model van. I pulled the seats out today to get the rest of the carpet out, so now I have a rough idea of what to look for when I find some seats.

Well I didn't have any wood long enough to allow space to get to the hinges. But I did manage to get the door lined up using a diferent method (B F H ), so for now it's lined up with the striker and closes if you slam it, but at least now I don't have to lift it to close it (which was a pain from the inside).

Also another question, I noticed today none of the tires match and are various sizes, what is the correct size that should be on the rims? (they're 15" bTW).

Can't help you there Sara. Mine are a little bit bigger than stock.

If you take it to a tire place to get new ones they will be able to tell you what you should have.

P235/75/15 XL (extra load). If you can't get reasonably priced XL tires put LT235/75/15s on it. They are almost the same tire.

Thanks for the info guys, 3 of the 5 are 235's, so I expected that would be the size, but just wanted to be sure.

next problem:
The brake light stays on?, the guy I got it from said it needed a brake booster (brakes work fine, but I do have a bit of pedal travel before they bite). With the high idle problem i'm wondering if its maybe a vacuum leak?.

Any suggestions?.
Thanks

Also forgot, the temp gauge doesn't work? (all other gauges work fine) is there a seperate fuse for the temp, or where is the sender unit located?
