I must correct some mis-information i posted, it appears that the "Heater Control Valve" was not installed on Standard cab pickups, i guess FMC decided the cab was small and didn't need colder air so they save a buck.
Sorry for any confusion this caused.
The "Heater Control Valve" is in the heater supply hose about halfway between the front of the engine and the fire wall, on the PSD it is near the oil fill tube.
The "Heater Control Valve" is controlled by vacuum and only shuts the water off when the "manual control head" is in the "Max" setting or the "EATC control head" is in the "Recirculate" setting.
On my Ranger, it was also closed in the OFF position. But the question remains -- have you tried turning up the temp while in Max AC mode? It could not be adjusted, so the only adjustment was fan speed. In my '250, I can turn up the temp, so I know there's some hot coolant in the core even when in Max -- something the Ranger valve will stop.
