AC Freon

Ok before you go bashing me out.. Hear me out first :-P

My AC isn't as cold as I once thought it was.. With summer around the bend in Texas, it's required.. I was wondering if anyone saw any objection to this method.. I used the Artic Cool + Syn Cooling Booster from Autozone in my old F150.. It made a MAJOR difference in cabin temp.. I am considering it for my F250 because, well I have some new cars still in my garage.. I had stocked up while back because they went like crazy in Texas..

Anyone see a problem in putting that in our system?

It shouldn't hurt anything as long as it's compatable with your coolant. Your truck should use R-134a.

There is all kinds of crap in a bottle on the market today, do you know what adverse side affects it might have on the life of your A/C system? I even seem to remember a news report from several years back about car's exploding because of some bogus drop in replacement refrigerant. Will it clog or damage the recycling equipment of a shop owner that works on the system in the future? If much improved A/C was this easy don't you think that the oem's would be using it?

If the A/C is not right, have a shop with a proper recycler recharge it correctly.

Storm,
Not sure if it applies to the 2004s, but on mine, there is a mod to completely shut off the hot coolant to the heater core. Apparently, trucks like mine that have the valve still allows coolant to flow heating up the plenum. My Ranger's AC would freeze you out in the hottest North Texas summers. My '02 F250 ain't bad, but I'll probably install the Ranger coolant shutoff valve when I get back to the Dallas area...

BTW, what's the temp of your system's output on Max? My Ranger was 36-38 degrees! Haven't checked my '250 yet.

Storm .. i talked to Barrett - and like some on here have said, NOT a good idea to mix an additive like that with the 134A . Said it could do all kinds of bad things to your system

Aye I figured that.. Guess I'll just recharge it with 134a instead of 134a + booster... Looks like I may have to do the ranger valve.. Another mod to write down LOL!

I'll be by the house around 1 tomorrow.. Gotta get the wheels fixed upfront..

Sure -- I have an '02 F250. Some of the older 250s have have the valve, some don't. Even the ones that do still let some hot coolant through to the heater core heating the plenum that your chilled air passes through, increasing the air temp a bit. My 2000 Ranger had a vacuum operated valve the completely shut off the flow of hot coolant to the core when in Max AC or Off. The way to test this easily is to turn up the temp dial on your panel with the AC set to Max. If it gets warm, you have hot coolant in the core. My Ranger blew ice cold no matter where you set the temp. I think you can get the Ranger part for $40 at a parts store. I'll be adding it when I get back to Dallas...

Any idea what Ford calls this valve? It's "official" name so to speak.
