Are these oil filtrations really necessary when you consider most people change there oil at 5000 miles on the 6.0? It's been noted that the 6.0 shears oil thus the 5000 mile oil changes. These added filters won't help with the shearing will they? This is my first diesel and I'm still learning everyday.
As "rbloodhound" said, through UOA it has been determined that the bypass oil filtration systems reduce the amount of soot in the oil even with 5k oil changes. The lower soot should help the engine in the long run. How much of a difference it will make in the long run is only an estimate at this point as most guys just don't have enough miles on the truck to make a definite conclusion about the overall benefits.

really necessary...no if so ford would have put them on factory..a benifit to those who run the oil for 5k yes..because it is getingthe metal shaving and soot particles that the full flow misses for those 5k miles. As for shearing of the oil it does not help there...i got my kit for 130-150 dollars and it is a awesome kit made by amsoil. i didnt need a fancy top dollar kit to do the same thing my bmk-11 does.
I would tell you to use the FS2500 or Oil Guard. I personally use the FS and love it, but the filter cost is twice the Oil Guard units. I use it mainly for soot removal and increased longetivity, however, I do extend my OCI. I run 10K mile intervals with no worries. Don't worry about shearing, it is overblown by most people. Your oil will be sheared in as little as 1500 miles!! I doubt many people change it that often. Worry about soot levels and the damage they do instead. Watch the videos at FS2500.com and see for yourself. All the filter variations are effective to a degree. Shop on price if you want to and be comfortable with your purchase. Hell, even buy a TP unit like Motor Guard if you want, just be prepared to change the TP every 1K miles!!
