I recently replaced the gears in my drivers door of my 88 Bronco. First take off the door panel, then raise the window to the up position and use some stiff wire to keep it up. Take the screws out of the motor and slide the motor and gear assy off the window bracket. Disconnect the wire harness then work the motor and gear assy out of the large opening in the door. When you get it out, you will see 4 screws on the side of the motor assy; take these screws out and you will have access to the plastic gears for replacement. Its pretty easy to do. Hope I have helped out.

I made a mistake. Before you take the motor out you must drill rivets out of the motor assy. (it is riveted to the door). The repair kit I got had new screws, nuts and washers in it for replacement.

On the '88 there are three bolts that hold the motor, only one if which you can remove initially. The other two are accessed by drilling holes over the bolt heads so you can get a nutdriver or socket in there to remove. Luckily, Ford made it easy to do this as they put punch marks right over them. Drill right over these marks and you will then be able to remove the other two bolts and hence, remove the motor. Be sure that you secure the window in the "up" position BEFORE you remove the motor. I just use 3-4 long pieces of clear packing tape over the top of the door to do it.

Those rivets on the inside of the door are threaded and there is 3 of them with a nut on each to hold the motor. I just reached in there and took them off and put them back on when I was done, so I woudn't have to drill out the rivets.

This is the correct Ford prescribed method of removing the window motors from the front doors.

Its also the quickest, and if you ever have the problem again.....the holes will be there already making it even quicker to complete.
