Hydroboost conversion on a '91

I know this has come up before but a search revealed few details.

I have a '91 351. I need to replace my power steering pump and rebuld my steering gear. Since I pull a boat a lot, I plan to convert to rear disk brakes in the future. This leads me to consider upgrading to a hydroboost as well.

Questions not answered by my search:
1) How do I go about finding a hydroboost unit that will fit my '91?
2) Having seen posts about a "saginaw," is this a brand, style, what? I beleive it requires a different bracket to mount. Any info on year/model to fit my '91?
3) Finally, has anyone made this mod to a similar year? And, can you point my to an information source?

Thanks

ok the saginaw pump can be found on same year van along with bracket from your local wrecking yard. get the hoses to just incase. once you do that along with a new steering box drive it that way for awhile before going with the rear steer. the bronco turns on a dime already and rear steer on such a short wheel based rig would almost be scary. the sag pump can handle those 35's no problem , do a search on the web and full size bronco . com for more info as well on the sag swap.

Can you see my gallery? Some pics there. Yeah I should have taken more pics oh the install process so I could do a write up. Booster came off of ebay, there was a guy selling a ton of them, they are new take offs of e450s that were being converted to campers and they were upgrading to airbrakes. So I bought 3 of them. The hoses I made my self just bought the line and ends from a local hydrulic shop, and was able to get most of the fittings from them as well, I know know all of the earl numbers to so anyone looking to do this can get the info from me. I have about 200 bucks into the lines and fittings, but you'll be able to better now cause you can buy earls.

The brakes are amazing! Crazy amazing! Was never really impress with the brakes on the bronco, though the rear disc helped some it still left reoom for improvement and the hydro boost did it.

I have procured a bracket for the saginaw pump ($25 off a '91 Econoline 302). The pump was gone but they wanted $50 for it. $30 more will get me a rebuild one anyway. Can anyone verify the part # of the Cardone pump I need? I believe it's 207878. 207878F (Autozone) has a "manga-pure filter." Is this worth the extra $20?

Don't hyd fittings require special crimping to withstand the pressure? How did you do that?

I'll take that info.

There is a special fitting that is reusable and it threads togeather and as it does so it pinches the hose. Think its good for 3000psi.

It might for it bolts to the head with 3 bolts and as you know the heads are the same, the intended angle how ever might be differant. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it for I just got a sag pump and bracket of a 93 van with a 5.8 and I have a 5.0 in mine so once the fitting comes in for the sag pump (takes a differant fitting than the stock pump) i'll be tring to to swap it in.

Only time will tell.

I was under the impression that saginaw was a style of pump and Cardone was a brand build on that style.

I think he was refering to the bracket, you took it off of a 5.0 but have a 351.

It appears that Cardon remanufactures the saginaw style pump as well (part #20-7878) available at you local auto parts store. I am still having trouble getting the dang bracket! Hydroboost is next on my list after I do the SagSwap.

Good day at the junk yard, picked up 3 saginaw pumps with bracket even the hoses came off with out a hitch! 2 came from 1989 vans one a 5.0L and the other a 5.8L and the 3rd one came from a 1993 van with a 5.8L. Might be early to say but i'd say all 3 brackets are the same, I have them lined up on the floor and they look identical, well perhaps the AC bolts are a differant thread size comparing the 93 to the 89 but other than that I'd say they are the same. I'll know once I take them apart and blast them with walnut shells later this weekend.

I may sell one and if they turn out to be the same from the 5.0 and the 5.8 than I'll sell 2 of them.
