Today while doing a service on our 72, F-250, 390 w/C-6 we noticed the kick down was not hooked up to the after market Holly Carb. The rod needed some bending to get it to mount and run freely. During the process of adjusting the angles on the rod the kick down lever on the trans moved positions. Originally it started in a static position of about 12 o'clock, now it is on a static position of 9 o'clock. I realized I can turn it counter clockwise but not clockwise. The spring back is still working but the trans is shifting at higher RPMs. How can I adjust this to return it to the 12 o'clock position? Thanks..
If I was to drop the pan, which we're planning on getting to today to clean the screen could the lever be removed and straightened? If not, where could I pick up new lever?
I am a little surprised it could be damaged, the pressure I used to move the lever after I found it was moving was quite light. Before I started to mess with this, there seemed to be no kick down when I stepped on it, now it is shifting late. I can do trans oil and filters but I have zero experince in the tranny area. Thanks - Dan
We found the issue with the kick down. The rod that passes to the transmission interior for the kick down (I beleive it is called the inner throttle lever) has a lever attached on the transmission side, this lever broke free and was floating inside. Now I just need to find the part.. Thanks Stuart1 for your advice..
Unfortunately no. The arm was joined with a very clean process, the rod only had a area of discoloring where it was attached.
The shop I work in (you do the work with techs watching/helping) thought of spot welding it and we tried, two problems, 1st- the position we thought might be the right one was not (I found a picture on it last night, second- after they did weld it the lead tech said they should have mig welded it, instead the welding machine used super heated the rod and he was affraid it has been weakened and would not trust it.
It apparently has been floating for some time. I will be searching the Tranny shops here for a new/used one. I think the best shot is going to be a blown case.
If you have any leads on parts they would be appreciated.. I tried googlewithoout much luck. Worst case we'll reassemble it with this rod and leave it floating while we search. At least that is a option..
