I just bought a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expy from a local c***y dealer. I loved telling them, "I am only interested in looking at your Fords". The side mirrors operate, but only down, by toggling either to the 6 or 9 o'clock positions. Twelve and 3 o'clock toggling does nothing. You can position them by hand, but I would like to make them right. Any pointers would be appreciated. Also, the floor panel in the cargo area has a broken latch handle. I know there are parts' sources out there, but I don't know them (except the local salvage yards). Thanks for any comments.
The mirror switch is probably bad. The contacts are dirty inside. Just the fact that it moves it one way there is a good chance that is what it is. I have a 2000 and I have taken apart the door lock switch and cleaned it, it now works better than ever. The contacts get a little dirty from use or lack of use and I had a piece of emory paper and slid it between the contacts a few times and what do you know, it works. I would try to remove the switch and see if you can open it up. As for the broken latch handle, try ebay and if that doesn't work then google ford parts and there are a number of dealers like Tasca Ford that come up that sell parts at a discount. You have to pay for shipping so in all reality that single part maybe better off purchasing from your local dealer. Good luck.
Wrap a butter knife in a single layer of electrical tape and pry the switch off with that to avoid scratching anything up. Should pop right out. Then just replace the switch or try taking apart the old one, cleaning it and put it back together. Should work after that honestly.
For the floor panel, call the local yards or look on the evilbay. Or post up a wanted ad in the classifieds here or any other Ford Truck/Expy site.
If you do that it would be the perfect excuse to swap in a new, better speaker and since you did the one you have to do the others as well and then you might as well upgrade the rest of the sound system while you are at it...
Sadly this logic applies to me...
Obviously don't force anything. Getting a door panel off these days is EASY, just make sure you read up on it before you go and do it. Nothing sucks more than missing 1 screw or fastener and breaking something because it was in some insane location that only a midget with a right angle screwdriver could see/reach.
