Just installed my Rancho 9000 shocks. So far so good. My question: is the setting set at the 12 o'clock position or at 6? I am assuming at 12 o'clock (5) and that is what they were at out of the box. Thoughts?
I have a 2000 gas 2wd I have set them slightly stiffer even for road going. I have 370K on my X and I felt the factory road setting a little to bouncy and allowed the rig to get a little sketchy in cross winds. So I bumped it up (stiff) one setting and find it still comfortable without the fat boy caddy float.
I personally like them far better than my last two sets of Bilsteins, which were good, but the ride is much better on the Ranchos and setting them up to pull the boat has added much confidence. Have had them 1 1/2 years.
For what its worth,
Enjoy
Did you look at the PDF you linked to, the image shows turning counter clockwise both firms and softens the ride.
This isn't that complicated. Here's what it says:
How do you adjust a RS9000XL Shock?
Adjusting is quick and simple. To tune your shock manually simply rotate the MyRide tuning control, at the base of the shock, clockwise to firm your ride and counterclockwise to soften your ride (setting 1 = soft . setting 9 = max control).
You can't continually spin the **** all the way around and around in one direction. It stops at 1 and it stops at 9. There's a little indicator on the shock body that you line up the numbers with. Turn it all the way counterclockwise and it'll stop with 1 at the pointer.

Thank you!
Pro tip since you live in Mag Chloride country or for those in the Rust Belt
Spray the shocks with a clear lacquer/paint for added protection and adjust the **** once a season.
I live in Colorado, which isn't too bad. Our X has no signs of rust and the bolts were fairly friendly when I did the swap.
It was windy when I was doing the shocks (always is here) and the stickers for the shocks blew away when I wasn't paying attention. Any way to get a set of stickers so I look cool and advertise the product?

Just look at the picture and laugh, ignore the words and look at the picture.
I just installed the 9000's myself and I found it hard to determine any setting other than all one way all the other way and in the middle. I just turned them to the middle and hoped for the best
