Looking down at the front of the engine there is the timing indicator attached to the top left (11 o'clock) above the harmonic balancer. On the top is a timing indicator built into the timing cover. My question is that when using a timing light my mark is on the right side of the balancer about the 3 o'clock position. Am I 180 out? Runs ok
I have looked and can not locate the timing indicator you mentioned. How did Ford attach it. Pan bolts? Timing cover?
It may have been removed at some earlier time or riped off when offroad. Any Sugestions?
On my 88, 4.9 it is on the passenger (right) side, just above the line where the oil pan meets the block. It appears to be a bolted on marker. My only suggestion would be to find a marker at a junkyard or there is a possibility that Ford still carries that part.
