Post new-B & ???

Hello all. I may be purchasing a 1996 F250 power stroke turbo deisel next week. It took a while of researching to find a forum for these things. I used to own a bunch of Ford stuff, of which were 2 vans but never any trucks.

The truck I'm looking at is solid, no rust, 175K power everything (except seats, just lumbar support) with a cap on the bed. I know, need pics, sorry dont have.

I'm wondering what issues are always at hand, common problems, maintenance issues...you guys know- stuff I should know about. I cant find any specs on it either; payload max, towing max, HP.

Welcome. The CPS is very common but is cheap now. GP's have probs every now and then alot more will follow. If you have specifics it helps. Sorry can't help w/ the payloads.

250 Turbo, weren't the 4.11's on the Chevy's Mine is a 4.10

read over that site. lots of good info. issues to watch for: dirt geting past the poorlyu designed air filter housing (see above site for info), maintence records would be great, front end should be checked closely for worn out ball joints and tie-rod ends, auto trannies are an issue, maintence is key for the entire truck. oil should only be diesel rated and should be changed 3-5k, fuel filter every 15k, pretty much standard stuff for most vehicles. Watch for smoke on cold start up, also watch for smoke on full throttle acceleration. No really once that truck is warmed up beat the snot out of it to see what its does. if the tranny is having any issues it will show up when you hammer it.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcomes .

I already found a few other useful site thru this site. I am actually a member of 4adrive.com, a forum for B-body cars, mainly Chevy Caprices, so I figure there would be a forum with knowledgeable people just about on any make/model.

I have, and am selling to offset the cost of the Ford, a 1984 Chevy CUCV 6.2L Diesel. Its the military version of the blazer...It's a bad *** truck, but it aint rated for pullin' today’s stuff & it aint practical for me since I recently bought a house.<O></O>

<O></O>

Example- It's rated for a max payload of about 1200lbs. I tried to transport a 1700lb pallet of tile & mix. The truck handled it, but the **** was sagging all over the place, not good. Although it could tow stuff too, it aint no POWERSTROKE! It just looks really cool and sometimes scares the crap out of people when I go down the road.
