Just wondering if anyone else has gotten the 6-speed.
Thought I would just see how people like the overall feel of that tranny. If yall could put your rear gearing and miles per gallon if possible. I'm hitting 18 mpg in mine with 3.73's, just wondering if anyone else is getting this or maybe better.
Started off with 15.5 mpg. it's got 3,500 miles on it and it keeps goin up a little every tank. That number isn't from the avg mpg that the truck says. I've hit the #'s on every tank since I got the truck.
08' F-350 DRW Crew Cab 4x4 Lariat. 6-speed w/3.73 non-limited slip rear end. Thats the only thing that I didn't like, couldn't get a 3.73 LS with the DRW. Color is dark stone on tan. Nothin much special on the interior except the DVD & Nav. Great truck, tows like a dream, have had a problem yet, knock on wood. Don't have any major plans for the truck. Might end up getting air bags, transfer tank, and of course being in South Texas I gotta have some major bumper replacements.
I like how the 6-speed drives. I've always had an auto but I didn't like the way the newer 5-speeds felt, and switching to a manual didn't drop the tow rating like it did in the past.

Sweet, I have been looking into the 6 speed for the truck I will be ordering (even though it won't be till next year). My biggest complaint is the fact that ford does not offer certain options with the 6 speed. Captains chairs, supplimental cab heater, and maybe something else, I can't remember right now. Anyway, that sounds like pretty good mileage on a drw truck, keep us posted!
I think your right. You can't get the captains chairs, cab heater, you loose the dash cup holders and some of the lower storage there. Also if you get a F-450 manual it governs the motor to 325 hp. and 600 ft./lbs of torque, but you get full power on the 1 tons and less.
Hello all;
Does anybody have any idea on how the motor is governed down on the F-450? I am looking at this combo and am hoping it is just a computer thing that can be programed out. This of course is when programmers become common on the market. Any thoughts on this?
Nice truck SouthTexas, I ordered the same color combo for my 250 Lariet. Can you post a picture to pacify me need till it gets here in 4 or 5 weeks? Thanks

I've heard that the captians chairs aren't available with the 6-speed. I tried to build a truck online and it said the option was not available. I emailed my complaint to Ford and was given some nonsense about marketing decisions & surveys. I notice recently the Ford website will let you build a truck online that includes captians chairs with the 6-speed. Does anyone know for a fact the option is not available? I'm too scared to ask the dealer. I drive about 50,000 miles a year and for the kind of money these new trucks cost I ought to be able to put my but in the chair I want.
When I ordered mine you could not get the captains chairs with the 6-speed. I always though it was because the console was too big for the shifter, it wouldn't have the room needed to shift. But I don't know.

Yeah, when I tried to build a 6 spd truck on there site, every time I selected captain chairs, it told me to add the torqshift. I would guess it's a clearance issue, but I haven't looked close enough at either truck. The rapid supplimental heater on the other hand, I have no idea why you can't get it with the 6er. I have noticed ford does have some weird option requirements though.
I don't think thta Fords "focus group" gets it that there are people like myself and a few others out there who can afford a nice truck and still want the stick shift. I think they are stuck with the attitude that if you are getting a stick shift you must not be able to afford the auto and other luxuries. They need to catch a clue and realize that their pre-chosen packages are not well liked in many circles.
I don't know, I may just be the odd one here. I have realized that in some cases I am the square peg in the round hole.
I bleed Ford blue but you have to wonder about the problems with a company that says things like you cannot have auxiliery heat due to the transmision choice. The company then wonders why it is in financial trouble. OK, time for me to get off the soap box.
