I'm still hoping Ford realizes not offering captians chairs or supplemental heat with the 6 speed is about as dumb as not having the bottom trailer tow mirror being non-adjustable like they had on the 99's. I don't know if I can live without my captains chairs, and for the 20 or 30 days a year that it's cold I'd pay extra money for that supplemental heater.
I think its messed up that the 6speeds dont come with a cold case of beer in the back seat. You think Ford would have thought of that to show some customer appreciation. Little buiggers.....
I don't think thta Fords "focus group" gets it that there are people like myself and a few others out there who can afford a nice truck and still want the stick shift. I think they are stuck with the attitude that if you are getting a stick shift you must not be able to afford the auto and other luxuries. They need to catch a clue and realize that their pre-chosen packages are not well liked in many circles.
I don't know, I may just be the odd one here. I have realized that in some cases I am the square peg in the round hole.
I bleed Ford blue but you have to wonder about the problems with a company that says things like you cannot have auxiliery heat due to the transmision choice. The company then wonders why it is in financial trouble. OK, time for me to get off the soap box.
I come from a family that is traditionally a GM family and I have now bought 1 new car (2001 Chrysler) & 2007 F350. I agree with your statement 100%, I dont like the way GM makes you option thier cars so much so that I did not even test drive thier brand either time. For me, a MT is a deal breaker and I would walk across the street to another make for something like that. (I dont have brand loyalty)
By grunting noise I just meant that noise that comes about when your going slow say in parking or parking your trailer and you get down to idle speed (650) or so. Always thought that center consul should have been a cooler!
You know what really sucks. You can't get trailer tow mirrors on an FX4 with a 6speed. I want an FX4 so bad with the 6spd and it looks like I'll have to do the mirror upgrade after I buy the truck.
Also, anyone else notice on the Ford website you can't put 20's on an FX4 crew cab...I'm sure it is a mistake because I have seen FX4's with 20's.
Hello all;
Does anybody have any idea on how the motor is governed down on the F-450? I am looking at this combo and am hoping it is just a computer thing that can be programed out. This of course is when programmers become common on the market. Any thoughts on this?
It is done this way so the average owner wil not damage his engine. What will occure is a high speed lugging condition, causing elevated combustion and exhaust temps.
Hard for this to occur with a auto as it is programmed to not allow this kind of misuse. Profeesional truck drivers like myself drive off of our pyro's just to prevent the elevated exaust temps. It is easy to make horespower, very hard to make use of it continuously. And yes, we have slow down way below the engine's potential quite abit on hills, just to keep the temps in line.
This is where the two terms "short term rating" and "continuous rating" come from.
I love standards but here in Louisiana they are rare as chicken lips on dealer lots. You pretty much have to order and wait. I noticed GM does not even offer a manual trans in there 3/4 and one ton trucks at this time. I wish I was old enough to drive back when a trucks options could be ordered just the way the owner wanted.

I agree on this 110%, after thinking about and looking into a new truck, it doesn't seem that it was as I remember 25+ years ago, in that you could pick and choose form a long list, now it all seems to be certain "packages", with a very short additional option list, with a lot of the more desirable "luxury" options not being available with the base engine packages.
Juts to give you guys a little news on the Ford website..... Sometimes it's not the best source of information. When I ordered my F150 the website wouldn't even let me order the truck the way I wanted it to, but I talked to the dealer and he filled me in. He said that the website isn't actually run by Ford, but an outside company, and they don't update things as often as they should. So before everyone starts bashing Ford because the website doesn't allow you to do something, talk to a dealer.
