OK, my ABS light has been coming on sporadically lately. sometimes its on and sometimes it isnt. if it comes on, it is usually within 1-2 minutes after starting the truck. Any ideas? I thought that if something was wrong, it should be on constantly, not randomly.
does it come on after you get up to 35 mph or just sitting ideling?
If it comes on after you get over 35, it might be you speed sensor, I had to replace mine as well as the sensor on the pumpkin to get the light to stay out.
Just a suggestiom
The guy at the Ford place said the light comes on after 35mph. if there is a problem with the speed sensor it fails over at 35.
Anyway I did not get an answer as to whether it was the pumpkin sensor or the speed sensor. I replace both. That fixed it. I think I paid around $75 for both things.
I bought the pumpkin sensor from Ford and the speed sensor form a salvage yard.
FOrd charged me around $25 for the pumpkin and want over $100 I think for the speed thing. It was half that at the salvage yard.
i'd check to make sure you don't have dirt, mud, corrosion on the connector at the pumpkin. what about the speedo?? does it stop working when the light comes on?? if the speedo still works it's not the VSS causing the problems. have you checked the brake fluid level?? my abs light has come on in the my caddy when the fluid gets low.
Speedo has always worked, no problems there, I will check connections before I replace anything, the underside is a little muddy, but I took it through a car wash a few weeks ago, but didnt start until a while after that.
