Truck has been running fine and the CEL came on and started missing badly. Acts like it is only running on 4 cylinders. PO1111 is the only code. Dealer parts man thought valve cover gaskets and internal wire harnesses. But shouldn't it set a code? When you start the truck it runs for about a second then misses badly and dies unless you give it a lot of pedal. Hardly enough power to move.
So whats wrong??? Help!
well since my first post didn't go though let me try this again.
First if it sounds like its only running on 4 cylinders lets check that out. start it up and make sure both exhaust manifolds are getting hot. its very possible that it is only running on 4. The IDM (injector driver module) can go bad and shut down one bank. It usually doesn't set a code.
If both banks get warm then we can check each injector seperately. You will need an ohm meter to do this.
each valve cover has 2, 5 pin connectors. each connector is like this
1 2 3 4 5
- - - - -
pins 1 and 5 are glow plugs. number 3 is common to both injectors associated with this connector. 2 and 4 go to one injector each. to check the wiring and elector magnet on the injector place on lead on 3 and then the other to 2 and then to 4. one each you should see about 3 ohms plus or minus .5 ohms. anything higher than that and you have an issue. do that to each of the 3 other valve connectors and test each of the eight connectors. post you results and we will go from there.
Do you do this well it's running or not? Sorry for the newbie question =P
No! there is 110V DC on the injector pins. Be sure the key is off too.
General Rule: When ever you are checking anything with an ohm meter the circuit should not have power going to it, even if it's only 12 V. The ohm meter won't like it.
I'm having this same problem. It was running fine 3 days ago, then all of a sudden, it was missing 4 cylinders! The entire passenger side of my 97 is missing. I have measured the resistance on all 4 of these injectors and they all test 3 - 3.5 ohms. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be great!
I found a little piece of information in another forum that said that if you have the valve cover off, and the injectors are not spitting oil, you probably have an electrical problem. All 4 of mine are not spitting oil. Is this true? And if so, where do I go from here?
only the left bank is getting hot, but it is starting on all for a second and then only the left bank runs. I haven't had a chance to get the ohm meter out yet. I hope later today. So it starting to sound more like IDM?

you may have a bad IDM. Someone else had the same problem here and that is what it turned out to be.

Be sure to check the connectors on the UVC's (Under Valve Cover) harness. You need to remove the valve cover to check the wiring under there too, but it sounds like an IDM tho.
