Does anyone know what is involved in replacing the bed of a ranger? I looked under, and it looks like the gas tank is supported from the frame supports (does it have to be removed?). Does the bed simply unbolt from the frame. Beside disconnecting the rear lights, and the wire harness, is there anything else?? I have a 2002 ranger, supercab, flareside.
As far as i know, 6 bolts, gas tube mount, what you mentioned and two guys can easily lift it. Easier than dropping the gas tank. Lots of guys pull the bed to do the fuel sender/pump.
Thanks for the reply. When you say "gas tube mount", are you talking about the 3 bolts when you open the "filler flap", or is there an actual mount that holts the tank in place.
davefordforum. Forgot to welcome you to FTE. You should like this site and get plenty of usefull info. You'll love it with the bed off. You'll see how accessible the gas tank is and you'll be able to do all kinds of maintenance to fuel line, paint the frame, power hose everything etc. Spring change is especially easy.
Dave, Unplug the connector going to the rear taillights too. It is one connector usually located right above the rear bumper halfway between the center of the bumper and the left(drivers side) fenderwell. Piece of cake job, much easier than it sounds, had mine removed in under 10 mins.
I backed into something, and crunched one side of the quarter panel at the top corner; broke the tail light and bent the bracket that holds the tailgate, and broke the corner of one quarter panel. I went to the wreckers to buy a quarter panel and they wanted to sell me the whole box, and the price that they want for the whole box is reasonable; so I thought that I might as well replace the whole box since I couldn't straighten the tailgate bracket quite straight. The box that the wreckers has is the correct color, but the decals are for a 4X4, and i have a edge, 2WD.
Right on bud. Decals remove and apply easy. I know stuff happens and if the price is reasonable go for it. You could probably sell the inside shell of the bed and the other quarter to recoup some of the cost. You could actually hang your original good quarter on the new bed so you only have to worry about the one being different!! Food for thought.
