Well, I talked to Diane and she said that when they get the equipment moved, Jody will do some testing on the new CPS since that is going to be a standard that his tunes will have to work on
It's been a few months...any word from the DP camp on the new CPS?
So far so good for me on the gray CPS. My engine actually runs smoother and quiter. With the HPX, 203* thermostat, and the gray CPS, my truck is as quiet as a V10 at cruising speeds. Great fuel economy too BTW, no less than 17.5 with my mods.
Just today I replaced my black OE CPS with one of the new B-rev gray ones. $27 plus tax from the local dealer. I had already bought a replacement black ones off of eBay and put it in my toolbox about two months ago, but after reading that the gray one might be improved, I thought it would be money well spent.
The installation went smoothly, aside from cutting the shiat out of my finger on the fan (another thread on that!) I swear the truck is more responsive and powerful. My old CPS was just starting to go out, stuttering on the freeway occasionally, and sometimes dying completely. But, these symptoms had been going on for only a couple of days, so hard to say how well the OE CPS had been working overall.
However, I went and filled up the tank immediately after the change. I will be watching my mileage to see if the power change is just my imagination. I just got back from a long trip, and my freeway mileage was 14.5, I was disappointed, I was hoping for higher. But, I had three kayaks on top... So many variables!
I will report back with info about my fuel mileage with the new CPS, as soon as I know.
Will you get an accurate reading tho? I mean, you might be comparing a working CPS with a semi or non working one
Well, it depends on if failures of the old CPS were "all or nothing". My truck didn't start stumbling until last week, but in between the stumbles it ran just as it always had. Then after changing to the gray CPS, I noticed a set-of-the-pants improvement. I want to find out if that is real.
Not if it doesn't work well. I'd rather get the $100 International one if it has a better chance of working and lasting.
I am just curious. How can we gauge this? I mean some people here go 10K and need a new one, some are using their original with 150K plus miles. It seems if the black CPS’s reliably go bad at 50K all the time, for example, then you could use the new grey or blue ones to see if they last longer/shorter. Otherwise the lifespan of the black CPS’s seem to be all over the board, with no real means to measure reliability. Are the blue ones a known quantity as far as reliability? Thoughts?
