Tranny Fluid Question?!?!?

Tranny Fluid Question?!?!?
Changing fluid in the ZF5 tranny.......
Got the Royal Purple Synchromax fluid, but am confused a little about capacity?
OM says 3.5 qt. for the tranny and transfer case, but are they attached in a manner that allows them to share fluid?
I see another drain on the transfer case, but don't know where to dump fresh lube in if they are not connected. Had planed to simply pour oil in through the top of the shifter box as I can get in there by just gently pulling the lower rubber boot aside.
Looking for an answer ASAP as i just started this job tonight after spending the day with the wife and kids at a ball game for Mother's day (her request!).
I would definitely like to finish before dark.

its 3.5 qts for each unit. theres a seal between the two. i pour 4 in from the top and call it good.
and to pour it in from the top you have to pull the shifter out theres 4bolts that hold it in.
