transfer case fluid

how do i change the fluid in the transfer case on a 94 explorer? does it auto. fill when u fill the tranny or is it seperate?

t-case is separate.

remove fill plug, then remove drain plug. let fluid drain. replace drain plug. Add fluid through fill hole until fluid level is at the bottom of the hole, then replace fill plug.

You don't "have" to remove the fill plug first. Many cosider it a good idea so you don't get it drained and discover that you can't fill it back up.

If I remember right, when I did my '92, I had to remove a balancer/vibration dampener to get at the plugs.

takes about 2 quarts of MERCON trans fluid. Plugs are about the size of 1/2 inch pipe plugs. Both on the rear face of the case, one about level of drive shaft, one at the bottom.
