This is my 06 f250 psd with the xlt sport package which has the color matched bumpers, door handles, and mirrors. I bought it in August of last year and have been haveing the problem from day one. Only on the lower portion of the bumper which is metal is the paint chipping. I have no chips anywhere else on the front end. None on the grille, upper plastic portion of the bumper, or the leading edge of the hood.
I talked to the waranty manager at ford because I know him(my wife works there), and all he said is there's nothing ford will do..period. Now if you look, none of the primer is chipped, leading me to believe that it's not from rocks, but poor quality. This just doesn't seem right for a $40k truck! He tried to tell me that it's because it's painted metal that it's going to do that. REALLY!? How come the rest of the truck doesn't flake off too? Afterall, it's just painted metal too, right?!
Anyone else have any experience with this problem as well? I'd love to hear from you and know what happened. I have a friend that does body work and he looked at it. He said it looks like a bad primer job. Said he thinks it could have been primered on a friday and painted on a monday and the primer had gotten too hard and didn't bond well. Any thoughts?
Sorry fot the long post, just venting a little, but would like to hear you thoughs and/or experinces with this. Thanks for your time.
You'll have a tough time making the arguement of a bad primer job on that one. To me it looks like road damage, bugs, rocks and such more than anything else. Generally a giveaway to bad primer would either be paint checking, peeling or lifting all over the bumper, especially in the insert areas. Being it's a white bumper, it shouldn't cost you all that much to repaint the lower section.
