I have a odd rattling noise under the front passenger floorboard area. I have looked underside and cannot find anything loose. Has anyone had this noise? 2000 f350 srw 7.3 thanks Ron
check the ball joints. I had one bad on the drivers side that felt like the noise was coming from under the drivers side floor. The slop in the balljoint was vibrating the frame. lift up each side and try to rock the tire top to bottom. If you have a ball joint problem you'll hear it.
Check the transmission inspection cover and the exhaus heat shied. They both will rattle and make a bunch of noise. Especilaay between 1500 and 2000 rpm.
I agree that with a front end rattling noise, you gotta get in there and check all of the suspension parts. As they mentioned, the steering damper is on that side too so check that out. Also, give your wheel/tire a look. I've seen the kingpin dust hub come off and basically sit there rattling away. Good luck and let us know what you discover it to be.
I have a '00 Excursion and also have a rattling noise...the noise starts as soon as the car starts rolling under power..the noise is only present from start to around 40 mph then goes away, hitting potholes or bumps have no effect. It sounds like a front end noise and after 3 mechanics I have a new left wheel bearing, a suggestion that I need a new transmission, and one without a clue as to what is causing the noise at all....help!
