valvetrain noise
For a year or so I have occasionally noticed a slight
knocking noise that I attributed to the valves. Then
on the way home yesterday, the noise suddenly amplified
to great proportions. I limped home and removed the
accessory belt to confirm none of the accessories or
pumps or fans were making the knocking sound.
I don't believe I've thrown a rod as I wasn't stressing
the engine when it occurred and the fluids look fine.
What is the most likely source of the valve train noise?
A belt valve, a broken spring, whatnot...
It's a 1987 F250 with the 5.8 Liter V8 (351)
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
