As to the comment about the GM riding better. I am not going to deny that one. The IFS up front really smooths out the ride. Fords don't ride that bad though, after all I bought a truck... I don't mind being thrown around the cabin; makes driving more fun.... probably need new bushings and such for the cab and suspension...oh well.... Back on topic though... Like someone else had said, apples to oranges. The two trucks have very few similarities. I would love to have one, but the old diesel gets the job done just fine, and sounds nice while doing it... I just don't understand why people have to go 90mph up 8% grades towing 5 trailers all the while with 5 ATVS strapped to the bed. I don't mind taking a bit more time and enjoying the scenery.
The 'flamethrower' option was due to a cracked injector body, causing it to dribble fuel, and when the truck went into regeneration for the DPF, the high temp caused the fuel to ignite. Ford did a voluntary recall of all the 6.4 trucks to reflash and check injectors, only affected 4,000 units. Cummins has had a bit of an issue with crankshaft contamination on the 6.7. I'm not sure if the duramax still has it's cooling issues like it used to....Either way, the new trucks are great to drive under warranty, but I would hate for a problem to happen after warranty. The DPF costs $1,000 to replace....

I hate to say this but I drive an 06 GMC service truck at work and the new Ford truck won't hold a candle to it for ride, confort and power.

I AM A FORD MAN. DON'T KILL ME OVER THE GMC REMARK. IT IS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM AND IT KILLS ME TO HAVE TO ADMIT THAT.
Are you kidding about the bed floor?

Again, Well said.

I really have a hard time believing that these trucks will last much longer than the ones we are driving right now. At the end of the day, its still uses the same engineering principals as any other vehicle out there, ie, oil film engine bearings, roller bearings in the wheels, greased ball joints, and of course, steel structure and sheat metal that unless babied will have rust in all the hard to reach places after only a few years.

As Dave said, I think I'll pass, like I could afford one anyway......

Oh, and good luck to you if you ever have to service that turbo setup.

No I am not. I couldn't believe it. It still blows me away.

I am not trying to be over critical but I was shocked. I have some good friends that work at Ford. I live outside of Louisville KY, and they say the same things/. They bring this stuff up at the plant and it goes in deaf ears. It has gotton to the piont that they will sacrifice anything to save one penny. I am sure that the other auto makers are doing the same thing.

They won't. In the past couple of years I have been on this ,tear truck down to the frame kick. I have found that the 80's seem to be the best. I put my 83/86 on a 95 super duty chassis and the frame was rust pitted alot worse then the 80's. The rubber bushings through out the truck were in alot worse shape and I know this 95 hadn't been around the stuff the others had been. They had hauled fertilizer, that kind of stuff.

The quality of parts seemed to be alot better in the 80's, on the average, then the 90's and up. I have stripped enough of them down now to be confident that my finding will be the norm.

if you go out and but supose 22 round bales about 25,000 on an 85 1 ton and put the same on a 99 or newer which one will sag more ive had more than that one my 94 and it sagged a little but then the 85 didnt move though its not a turbo its just a stock 6.9 with a 4sp geared for pulling the old ones you need parts go to an auction, lmc truck or a farmers field thats where my 87 in my gallary came from i could put a new front clip on an 84 for what it would cost for a new headlight assembly in and 08 i won the lottary i would paint my 87 and put a turbo and a 5sp in it and say the hell with buyen a new truck the old one if you build it you know what you have everythings in good shape and its will take the abuse you put it through if your in a field and hit a tree or post ya your gonna be mad but you do that with an 08 you gunna be flat out p$%%#d

Yeah, especially if the bumper wraps around a 3" sapling. I guess the writing was on the wall when ford started using plastic snaps to fasten the front grill in their trucks. I just hope they don't stop selling parts for my 86 trucks any time soon, I don't have time to build a new truck from scratch, at least not yet .

i dont think they'll stop sellin parts for the older truck because they last longer and i think people will go back to them once they figure out that there is going to be alot that needs to be refigured on the 08s and in 20 years people will be restoring the 80s trucks like they do the 60s and 70s now

What do you mean 20 years? my f150 is restored minus a new box, and my diesel will hopfully go under the knife this winter. Ofcourse, it could take 20 years for people around here to understand why, right now they just think I'm crazy for sticking with an older vehicle.
