Buying a Bronco. Is there anything (worth having) that comes on
one and not the other???

Biggest diff is prob that the 78 has no smog pump, vapor canister, or cat converter and is the first year of the big broncos, if that means much to you.
so, we recently had the first and last years of the big broncos..78 and 96

btw, sold our 78 in Dec 2000..buyer drove it away with a smile (started and ran a little better than our 96..lol)

 

my broter and i each have broncos mine 78 his 79 to look at them you couldnt tell which is which, aside from color and mine is about 3 inches taller than his. any way try to find one that didnt have a/c from the factory. the ones with a/c have the heater controls out in the engine compartment, non a/c models have the core under the dash. that extra room taken up by the heater core makes it harder to put motors in and that little corner is a nice spot to put a small tool box or something. If the a/c still works and thats what you want dont worry but most 78/79 dont have the a/c pump on them.

U-joints -
'78 used 1310 series U-Joints
'79 and later use 1330 series U-Joints

Emmisions - '78s only required EGR, while the '79s had catalytic converters and smog pumps in addition to EGR.

Isnt the '79 a little cleaner and sleaker looking than the 78? Thought they redid the 79 to make it a lot more aerodyn. and not as wide (like 3" less or so). No expert on this vintage

 

Well I don't know about Broncos, but I had a '78 F150, and then i saw one that looked just like mine, but it was '79, as far as I know, '78 used round lights, and '79 started the square ones
