Hello to everyone. I'm buying an 88 Bronco in 3 days. I can't wait to turn it into a money pit. It's got the 5.8 EFI motor, auto trans, and manual transfer case. The body's straight, and I stole it for $1,500.
I was wondering if anyone knows what tranny, transfer case, and gears are in it. The gear selector has 3 drive positions; OD, D, and 1.
Thanks in advance.
Hello and congrats on the purchase. I just bought an '89 XLT with a 302. (check my gallery for pics) And yes its a money pit. I got mine for $1900 but had to rebuild the trans ($800) right away. I think you have an AOD in yours, i also have an AOD OD-D-1 shift pattern. By the way how's your oil pan look. I just replaced mine - not fun. Good luck with your new ride.
I didn't think that the AOD tranny was available with the 5.8L,but that's not to say Ford didn't build the combination. If that is your shift pattern, then it must be an AOD.Your T-case is a Borg-Warner 13-56.What other options are on your Bronco? I just "ordered" a whole bunch of info through Ford's Customer Assistance Center for my 1990 Bronco.I should get the info about my truck in the mail in 2-4 weeks.I think they find out when/where the truck was built, and with what options, and they also give you a breakdown of your vehicle's VIN.Mine has the EFI5.0L(code N),but my Dad's '94 he used to have had the EFI5.8L(code H).Half the time I was driving his 5.8L Bronco because I liked it that much.
I'm not sure what other options are on it. I'm guessing the axles are the standard 44/8.8 with 3.55 gears. I know what you mean about driving it. This one is completely stock with 202,000 miles on it, and I had no problem spinning the tires.
Your data sticker/decal located inside the driver's side door jam has an axle code listed on it.A 3.55 limited-slip would be code H9.An open 3.55 rear would be code 19.The code for 4.10 limited-slip is H5,but I think Ford only offered this ratio with the EFI5.0L/AOD combination.Your 5.8L Bronco most likey has 3.55:1s.
