I have a 1991 F-250 5.8L. The spark plugs were changed and that same day the check engine light came on. The truck still runs fine and nothing seem to be in trouble. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it. Thanks
Well a lot of the emissions equipment has sensors that will throw codes for any kind of change in the operation of the equipment. You should probably pull the codes and see what you get.
There are several methods. If you want to go the cheap/frustrating route you can use a paper clip to jump the pins on the connector and count the light flashers in the cab; the process is laid out here:
If you don't want to do all the work, you can buy an OBDI code reader at an auto parts store for around $30. This is what I did and I keep it in my glove compartment. A very handy device to keep with you on the road!!
Last resort, most auto parts stores will pull the codes for you for free... But thats not a learning experience!!
My bet is that you inadvertently tinkered with something involving the emissions equipment and that is whats throwing a code. The emissions stuff is notorious for this. Good luck!
