Now that's funny your truck with stock factory tune likes Sunoco 93 and knows the difference. Who's bamboozling who? This has been discussed on this board many times, and the concensus is it doesn't matter! Kinda backs up what the lab proved. This was also a topic in consumer repoorts, USA Today!
So your truck knows better then an independant lab! Maybe you should read the article! Besides there is plentyy of documentaion on this which disproves any claims of better results with name brand fuels and increased octane useage over what the recommended!
spank - You sure it's not your driving habits?? What does it get on the HWY at a set cruise control speed!
dmonster - keep in mind CARB/CAFE specs need to show fuel useage improvement. The difference between your 04 and your friends 06 could be that there were additional enhancements to meet the CARB/CAFE specs.

You are assuming that I am running a factory tune.

No bamboozling here. You are free to think what you want, as am I. I won't discuss this further, as what either of us say will in no way affect the others thoughts.
Then why tell a guy that is seeking information about a stock setup to increase octane and brand! Based on your comment that you could possibly have a tuner! Doesn't help the guy at all!
Apples to oranges!
I still see the same difference in fuels with the stock tunes. To clarify, I see a difference between 'Joe's Gas' 93, and Shell 93. I also see a difference between Joe's 87, and Shell 87.
So how do you measure it since there is proof that denmonstrates no difference! Along with a base requirement from the FEDS? Using 93 in a base stock tune is ludicrus.

Kevin,
I am sure it isn't my driving habbits. I don't try and race my truck like it is a Mustang, nor do I try to take it off road like a monster truck. I drive to and from work every day which is about 20 miles round trip (30 if I go home for luch) , I usually drive 55 - 65 MPH. I don't do much city driving unless I leave work during the day to go out for lunch, but most of the time I drive home for lunch. So to answer your question "what does it get on the HWY at a set cruise speed?" It gets around 12.9 MPG. If I drive out of town for vacation, or just on a weekend trip I drive my wife's mini van because it gets better milage and my truck can't hold both of us and our four kids.
I know it is probably hard to believe my truck gets that bad of milage, but this is no BS. I called my delaer again today and I will be taking it in this Saturday for them to try and figure it out again, but they said they don't know what's causing it.

I am not sure why you have such a burning desire to keep on this. My proof is in startup time, idle quality, and mpg. I repeat... they can run whatever test they want , and I will not waiver. You can chat about this until you are blue in the face.
My truck is only getting 11.92mpg gallon in mixed city/hwy driving. I attribute it to being new (3500 miles on it so far) and the use of oxygenated and ethanol additives. Both will decrease your fuel mileage by upto 30% depending on concentration. You might want to check the EPA's website and see what the regulations do to your local gas formulation. If it's heavy on additives for pollution control expect to get bad mileage.
Don't have to chat about it because I get great mileage using typical 87 octane and it doesn't matter where it comes from! No problem on the idle or anything else!
So I guess I am consistant with the subject matter experts and we can dismiss all other claims based on the consensus of this board and others.
But I do thank you for adding to the oils companies profit targets that's one less extra 60 cents I will have to worry about out of my pocket.
Spank - have your dealer check the injectors, you may have one that is over rich.

Thats great to hear that you can run pretty much anything. I am not saying that 100% of the time the gas is bad from the nonames, but it is more times than not in my area.
