Buddy just got a 2006 Lariat, super cab with the 5.4. Roughly what kind of mileage should he expect on the hwy? Computer is showing, at best 15.3. I would have thought in OD at 65 it would be in the 18-19 range
65 on the the highway i got 18.9....i tried it out...put the cruise on and came home from pittsburg to east of harrisburg and calculated the MPG....basically 19....i was pretty happy....honestly didn't expect it....but the tank proved it...
My dad gets about 19 mpg in those conditions in his 04 F150 5.4
If he takes it alittle slower, accelerates extreamly slow he still doesn't get any better. 19 is about the best he gets, and in town he gets around 15-16, taking it easy.
My 5.4L SuperCrew gets 17mpg overall (mixed city/75mph hwy.) Sometimes 18 to 19 if I run more hwy.
Keep an eye on your gas mileage...it might come up as it breaks in.
I get about 18 MPG on average at 70 in my truck. If it’s brand new it will get crappy mileage, I was lucky to get 10 from mine, but now with a few more miles it’s doing a lot better and I don’t even think it’s completely broken in yet.
yeah....my first couple tanks i was a little scared....i was getting 10 mpg....then it got better....now i'm around 15 around town and 18 to 19 on the highway cruising along..
I have a 07 SCREW with the 6.5' bed. Just did a road trip yesterday and running at 70 to 74 mph I averaged 15.5 mpg on the trucks trip computer. I only have 2300 miles but was hoping to get better. This truck has the 3.55 rear end and 20" rims.
my personal experience is that it's the extra speed from 65 to 70-74 that hurts MPG because drag increses exponentialy....i found 65 to get me there in a reasonable amount of time and get the best MPG....
also the 3.55 gears on 20" rims....3.73's would have been better in my opinion....
For around town and towing I would say yes, but for HWY I'm thinking the 20" wheels and 3.55's would do good mpg wise.
could be i guess...i would think the truck would work less with the 3.73's to get them moving....i'm not sure the actual height is that much taller than the 18" wheels but i think it's taller.....for some reason 32.5 sticks in my head for the 20" wheels...
Why would 20" wheels be good for mpg. They weigh a good bit more than 17" aluminum wheels and for these heavy trucks 3.73 should be standard to get them moving.
The 3.55 gears and 20" wheel combo is better for gas mileage but not so good for acceleration times. There's a post a few pages back that goes into the details as to why.
