I have installed 55w fog lights on rear of a 2001 f150 xlt xtr 4x4 .Put in relay and wireing .Getting ready to tap into factory backup light wire...Does it matter which side you tap into one is solid black other is black with purple tracer line...........my wireing diagram just says attach to factory backup wire...KC 517 BACKUP /FLOOD AND OPTIONAL KC 6303 SWITCH KIT..
Mine has been tapped into the reverse lights. A friend did it for me he also had to add a diode so the reverse lights wouldn't come on. There is a article on this somewhere in the Articles and spec thread. I need to get power to a aux switch so I can turn them on when needed.
Black color code is ground.
The blk/p is the 12v feed thru the transmission selector switch.
There is no need to use any diode if it is done correct.
The reverse lights are isolated from the relay contacts powering the added lights. They should never get togather.
All the reverse circuit connection does is operate the relay to pass the new power thru to the new lights.

Did you get a back-up kit or single parts? I'm thinking of doing this also.
I built from parts rolled around all day under the truck every thing works except the toggle switch it lights up but does not shut off rear lights ......every time i put it in reverse they light up.....maybe its the relay ....heres the diagram i followed http://www.kchilites.com/faq/instruc...517_backup.pdf
Hi Seahawk31,
I am considering an installation similar to the one you did.
Consider the draw through the reverse switch of that 110 watts. Is the wiring adequate? What size wires did you use from the harness to the lights? Do you have independant grounds for each of the lights? Did you want to have control over the power going to them as you are driving down the road without putting the truck in reverse for the "high beamers" coming up behind you? How is your alternator taking the extra draw?
