I have an 02 Screw and I need to install the trailer brakes. I was wondering are there and tips/tricks. I know they come with directions but there is usually always something.
I am going to try to talk the dealer into do it for free. Play that well if it came with it they need to be installed and see if that works.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Oct-02 AT 11:03 AM (EST)]If you have the tow package. You should have a box with a square shaped relay in it with instructions where to put it into the fuse box to activate the trailer lighting. There should also be a wiring harness to wire your electric brake box.
yes there was. just wondering if anyone has done it and about how long it takes.
i was looking through the garage, and i can't find the package. kind of odd, i thought i new where it was. guess i'll have to check into what a new one costs.
There should be a plug in under the dash to plug your harness into then you wire the brake box to it. I didn't do mine. I took it to a Car place and they put it in. It took them a Half hour. So it can't be that bad.
do you know where the brown wire goes. it says light illumunation. which it says parking lights. i have no idea where this would be conencted to under the dask. the trailer break controller does not have a connection for that. so i am wondering where to tap off the parking lights. the light switch is really far up in the dash. so need to find the next closest spot.
I am having a similar problem with my '02 Screw. There seems to be a place for all the wires to go except the brown one. I have the Draw-Tite 5500 Controller, and the 5.4 with the tow package. Anybody that can help, it would be greatly appreciated...
yhere is the deal. the only reason to use the brown wire is if the trailer controller has illuniation like the dash does. i found this out after talking to my buddy with the same setup. turned out my problem was the 20amp fues in the engine compartment went out which controls the trailer lighting.
My controller does have a digital readout, but is not illuminated like the dash lights, so I am assuming that I can go without hooking up that wire. I really appreciate your help. I thought I was going to have to pay $50 to have it installed!
