Sorry to hear you're still having trouble. As Cookie88 said, run the ground right to the battery. Also, maybe check the input voltage going to the gauge, make sure your getting 11-14ish volts all the time. Just talkin' out loud, maybe something will unlock the mystery. Could it be a bad gauge?
if you have mulitimeeter hook it up to the gauge where the leads from the probe go in and whach what happens, , if nothing, hook it back up to your + and - , nd see if voltage flactuates , that should be very precise check, if you loose ground or if you having interferences you multemeeter will see it, but it would have to be the one with bar graph or an analog one, cause digital readout changes to fast and you wont be able to see the changes that good,
good luck, with it,
on the other hand before you go nuts buying new gauge let me know what type of connector you have on the back of the gauge, if its the same as mine i can test the gauge for you if you ship it to me i have C2 series, will be cheaper for now and would tell you if its the gauge itself or not,
ill go and see what connector i have and make pix of it,
Thanks guys for the info, and Pete for the offer. I already have an isolated ground run right to the battery, so I know that is not the issue. It almost has to be some kind of connection or interference, like I said the gauge read ambient temp perfect for 4-5 days while I was waiting for a new probe (70.00 down the drain). Anyway, I am going to go through it one more time this weekend, and I will let you know Pete what kind of gauge it is. It is a Pro Comp gauge, don't know if that helps you out or not. I have 3 weeks before I hook up to the 32" TT, so I have a little time, but it is annoying to say the least.....
Will keep you posted......
Do you guys hear of many gauges themselves going bad? I talked to Autometer, they said they see way more probes go bad.......
i had bad probe from the box on my pyroit read 600 at idle and went out of scale as soon as i started driving, , and my boost gauge was dead from the box o used compressor to see if it moved , it did by a little,,,, had them taken care of by Bob from dieselsite within 4 days, has been working fine ever since,
Well, I finally got to dig into this problem. As I mentioned earlier, I had replaced the probe and that wasn't the problem. So I ended up running a seperate power wire for it, and went through and soldered all the connections. Just ran a 300 mile trip and worked perfect. Must have been a poor connection somewhere. They say it is usually something simple, and in this case I am sure it was. Thanks for all the insight
