I have put in 2 auto meter pyrometers in the last 6 months . Am i doing something wrong? They were installed on the exhaust manifold on driver side closest to firewall. Is there a better one?
I also had problems with the autometer, never did figure out why. Right now I have a Isspro in drivers manifold and a glow shift in passengers side manifold. They both work good and the isspro reads about 100° higher then the glow shift.
does your tran. temp gauge work? weird boost gauge i havent seen one like it. im gonna buy just a sender and see what happens. I need mine since i did my mods my right suddenly got heavy and temps must be watched. i wuv it
My boost gauge is like that. It's actually a gauge intended for gasoline engines with a super- or turbo-charger, so that the engine vacuum can be read when the engine is not in a boost state. With a diesel, the vacuum side is not useful as the engine has no intake manifold vacuum to read.
Yes, at the time the picture was taken the trans temp gauge did work. I took a couple of pictures of it and each time part of the number was blacked out. My camera could only catch parts of it lit up.
Last summer one panel on the trans temp gauge quit working. I can still tell what it is reading, so I haven't messed with it yet. I bought this temp gauge from Ebay in September of 2006 and was going to put it on my Expedition, but I never bought a bumper pull camper so I never installed it. Then when I bought the '95 I wanted to know the transmission temp, so I put it in.
Kevin, i was looking at your sig. and was wondering if you could post a picture of your compass/temp mirror?
It isn't really anything too special. My original mirror was having some discoloration in the center, so I was ready to replace it.
I grabbed the new one on half price day at pick-n-pull. You have to get the wiring harness and the sensor in front of the radiator. It either came out of a Chevy Suburban or Silverado (yeah, I know GM parts on the Ford). The Ford mirrors snap on the mount on the windshield, the GM mirrors have the hex screw to hold them to the mount. Much easier since I don't know what I am doing.
Not great pictures, but you get the idea. I am surprised that I didn't have a picture of this already.
Some of the mirrors are only one line displays and you choose either the temperature or the compass. Mine is the 2 line display showing both the compass and the temperature. It has the auto darkening too, but with the tall truck, I rarely need that.

My autometers were used 4 years ago when i got them. Never had any issue. My egt gauge is in the Dr manifold as well. You should check connections, something doesn't add up. I have never had any issue with any auto meter ever.
