the only thing my trubo makes is boost. besides the noise around 5 psi. like someone is whistleing over a beer bottle makeing that whooo noise. but fellow fte's told me this is normal.
brought it to ford they told me it is normal all 6.0's do that nothing to worry about.
My 05 had the same problems and i took it to ford and they replaced the piping to the turbo and also replaced the turbo as well. Still ge the turbo fart, but like others said, under hard acceleration and a quick let off, even though it happens very very rarley with the 5" exhaust and no cat.
Went to ford for a couple of things one being this noise. I had them do a degas pressure test and check the oil and egr cooler. Sent it in Morning Monday and I had to call them today to see how it is. They said they are replacing the egr cooler and it will be done tomorrow. Will let you guys know if this solves my problem.
Got my truck back from Ford and the same old B/S. It originall went in for tsb on windows. since i had limo tints on it they did a coutosy thing and repaced the tints for me also. Got the truck back and the tint is not limo it is a cheap *****ty tint they put on. now i have to deal with this issue about my tints.
Anyway that is not the biggest thing. they didnt fix my whine i told them about all they did was replace the egr cooler. Noise is still there and now a new freakin noise. At around 1800rpm about 30 mph in light throttle it sounds something like a weed whacker coming from the engine. i dont know what to do i wanna stranggle the dealer. Called them up want the tech to take a ride with me so told them that they want me to go down saturday morning and take a ride with the tech.
Also let me add this is the second time for same problem and both times i told them do a pressure test it might be the H.G. You guys think they did? Apsolutely not. Will tell them again maybe third time is a charm. I HOPE. Also noticed fingerprint all over the hood and a new scratch they must of added, have to yell at them for that. And let them know i noticed there are bubbles in the degasbottle when it is in high idle there are bubbles like someone is blowing into the bottle making bubbles. \
third time is a charm. Meet the diesel tech. awsome guy, very helpful. also got a new service advisor. The old one was the one feeding me all the B/S. Said he doesn't think it is my heads b/c no signs of it being HG. Anyway took it in monday morning changed out my turbo updated my comp. tightended some bolts and made sure pedistal was positioned correctly. Picked it up went for a drive with him. No noises at the time. The new noise was gone, (vibration sounding noise at 16-1800 rpm). as for the other whooo whoooo tea kettle noise it wasn't as pronounced. started it up this morning and it was still there. Apparently this noise can be heard more when it is cold and at normal opp temp. it could be heard but not as much. Today driving home the other vibration noise came back. Gonna bring it in when i get some spare time again to figure this prob. out. Anyone have any idea???
Did the original poster ever get a resolution to this problem? I didn't see one in this thread. I'm extremely interested in what his resolution was (or anybody's for that matter), since my '03 does EXACTLY the same thing when pulling my travel trailer, especially under a load like going up a hill.
His description of it was right on when saying it sounded like the turbo was "coughing" and the truck lost power. I have a boost guage and when the coughing noise happens, the boost drops WAY off, leading me to believe the turbo is at fault. But not sure what the actual cause is.
I've never been able to reproduce it if I'm not towing something heavy.

I would be interested to know from other 6 liter owners if anyone has had a similar problem, and what was done to solve it. I understand that the EGR valve was re-designed in '05 to '07 and don't seem to have the same issue as the '03 and '04. This is a link to the video on U Tube...it really starts to act up at about the 1 minute mark. Input appreciated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_531IQ9nRw
Ok here is the diagnosis. Did a pressure leak test. Came back positive meaning no leaks. Also changed the Turbo and adjusted the pedestal mount. And still noise. The tech at the dealership said there are no signs of it being heads (followed all the fords' procedures for head problems). Does anyone have any idea of what this noise could be?? Or any pointers on how to pinpoint this noise??
Meant to post this a couple of weeks ago but I've been out of town on business.
I unplugged the EGR just prior to going a camping trip with the travel trailer. (fyi..no codes and no lights popped up).
Didn't notice any difference at all in the normal everyday driving I did a day before getting the trailer.
However, it seems the problem is now solved with the turbo "coughing" while under load with the trailer. Never did it once. Turbo never faltered, no other noises, everything went great.
All I did was unplug the EGR. And it's staying unplugged.
Wow I can't believe I found this site!! I have had all kinds of issues.I have had to replace egr 4 times found 3 sensor upgrades.Rpm's would up and down for no reason.First time they replaced turbo switch when first had it then other things, kept clogging up egrs, when went down from 4500 to sea level had all kinds of issues to which no code would ever show up.It was so intermitent that nothing would come up.Ford had it for a week came up nothing then another week.Nothing would come up even mechanic new something was wrong but could not get it to do it all the time.He told me the egr was getting way to gunked up and they put a updated one in.Still had issues. Then one day coming back from the racetrack with my classic car about 70 miles away I am doing about 65 when POW start slowing down black smoke spewing out and now have no speed,It was so fun going home about top speed of 35,I had finally got turbo to blow up since I was telling them for 3 years that it was the turbo all along clogging up system.I had always ran additive but now I run a really good one called Howies and since new turbo no issue's YET.Have 51,000 on truck and since I put 4'' duals mbrp exhaust with a new k&n air intake system truck is running great. Now for those that don't know there is oil/fuel sensor that goes into valve cover that has been updated but ford won't replace till it goes out but I did it anyway and makes a differance.I always change fuel filters and keep to scheduled maintenance, some myself some from them.I had issues with trans filter up front one that broke off bottom had to take all lines off get it out then ford guy had to take a 3ft long monkey wrench to take it apart found filter had been jammed in there from factory and for 30,000 had not been filtering right so ford replaced it after I complained about paying 300.00 out of pocket that it was fords fault. They did as on the road repair.Well anyway I could keep going but mine does that sound only on a short burst and let off but not a big problem.Something wrong with the turbo when it does that all the time and I am sure by now you have fixed it by now.Mine only took them 3 years to fiqure it out and had I not put all the work and lift into truck it would have been gone along time ago but for now I am real happy with it.
