I've never done this, so I gotta ask Q's. Do you have to remove the column or will it slide out between the column and gear box? I got to looking at mine and it is broke and is why I have play in my steering. All this time I just knew it was my gear box but.............. live and learn. And I know JoWilker has told me to check this and I was just being stubborn!! So......... sorry John for not listening sooner.
Oh yeah, I know I can get one local but I don't want to do this again in 6mos., so what do I look for in Quality?
You shouldn't have any problems with getting the wrag joint. And there not bad to do. At the joint itself you will see a bolt, or nut and bolt. Remove that completely. Then you should be able to grab the joint, wiggle and pull towards the firewall, the shaft for the steering columb will slide, it's a shaft in a shaft. The wrag joint and shaft on the steering gear box each have a flat spot, so it will only fit one way.. Then slide you're shaft down, replace you're nut/bolt......... Bob
There are two different steering flexible couplings used on 1965/66 F100/250 2WD's.
C5TZ-3A525-A .. Coupling~Larger Pin has .41" O.D. Use before Serial # 900,001
C6TZ-3A525-A .. Coupling~Larger Pin has .56" O.D. Use after Serial # 900,001
Because of the posslblity of parts swapping, regardless of what the serial (VIN) number is, measure the overall diameter of the pin. These trucks are 40 + years old, so there's no telling what's on there today.
Well I replaced the friggin' thing! PITA......... but I got it done. I guess what made it a pain was I was trying to get it done before dark and I started on it at 6:30, and I did not know what to expect. It was the original one/type as the large studs had to be ground down and punched out. My steering shaft would not move enough to remove it so I had to move the entire column up. My steering is much improved but still some play, but much better! Thanks guys..........
