Steering column slop..

k guys im almost done with my tranny sawp. And while doing it i had my column from my Manual truck and my auto truck on the bench. When you lock the column the manual one doesnt move. And my auto column turns about 2 inches each way. My auto one has always been veryy sloppy. And when i drove the truck it would go clunk clunk clunk. So when i just went to put my column back in i noticed the bar that goes the the steering box has a ton of play and makes the clunk noise. I know i can fix that with a new gear box. However what do i do about my steering column? How do you make it tighter??

If you are talking about the intermediate shaft , it has a plastic bushing in it that can wear out & cause the noise ..

On mine ,I just welded the shafts together, they are designed to slide one inside the other...
