Since you cannot get a set of landyots...I'd start with the Hellwig as 1 Ex camper suggests...
My Ex did NOT come with a rear sway bar...but it does have a front factory one. Some Ex's come with a factory rear and some don't...
The Hellwig can be ordered from JCWhitney...they have free shipping on orders over $75 OR you can use a $15 off coupon for orders over $100...I don't have the coupon code here with me but I can send it to you if you like...
The Hellwig makes a huge improvement in handling...but BEFORE you order the Hellwig...look under your Ex to make sure there isn't one back there.
Front and rear shocks that are worn will also contribute to handling issues...I'd swap those out too...not hard at all. Bilstiens seem to be the "choice"...I haven't done anything on mine yet as I have only 27K miles.
The steering box adjustment is a HUGE improvement if you have "play"...can you rock your wheel back and forth and NOT actually engage your wheels to turn?...if so, a steering box tighten is needed...these boxes are kinda junk...
Here is the link to a post about HOW to adjust the box... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...heel-slop.html My post in that thread has some "hints"...click on the directions in my post FIRST then read my "hints"...
Also what air pressure do you run in your tires?...the Ex's can be tempormental about that too...
For such a big beast of a truck...she sure likes it HER way...hey wait a minute...don't they all! LOL
Also how are the tires wearing on the Ex?...when were they replaced?...does the steering wheel sit centered?...basically how is the alignment on your Ex?
After a BUNCH of mods on my Ex...I started noticing a "slight" wander...nothign too drastic but noticable...I took it in for an alignment and the camber is within specs BUT on the very low edge...perhaps Fords shims from the factory are all low?...I am having my shop get me a set of concentric bushings that go on the top of the ball joints...oops ball joints...keep that thought...anyway the concentric bushings are ADJUSTABLE so he can set my camber "slightly" positive versus the "slightly" negative that is there from the factory...a positive camber contributes to BETTER straight tracking...the trade off is if you go TOO high...you can get faster outside tire edge wear...I'll let everyone know how this small mod does.
NOW ball joints...these ball joints are also junk...they go between 30-50K miles...and also contribute to poor handling...mine are still solid...yours with 83K may not be. I'm told that the factory ones do NOT have a grease fitting...the aftermarket ones (MOOG?) do...so you may want to see how your ball joints and tie rods are...basically a good front end eval...that's what my alignment shop did...plus my tow is out...hence my steering wheel is slightly off center...will be fixed when he does the full alignment...
Hope this info helps...I personally wouldn't jump to the landyots first...I'd try some of the other things...then if handling is still "questionable"...look for the radius rods...but these are just my opinions...take them for what you paid!
hope this helps,
joe.
