I am looking into fund raising, and would like to know what charities, we as a chapter would like to support. Give some ideas and we can vote on one that we will support...I personally think the Salvation Army has been great through the years.
The Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts are great choices of organizations to support. They support kids and that is what it is all about. I believe if more kids went through those programs the world would be a better place.
Yes, I like the Scouts too and admire their wins in the courts to keep our organization as close to the way it was founded as they can. I was an Eagle Scout and Cub den leader many moons ago, and there are few better programs.
Time for a Jamboree!!

Mike, I donate to organizations and charities as the mood strikes (to Katrina, to United Way (after their re-organization), CARE, and ARC) so [strikeout]prolly won't participate in this one too.[/strikeout]
Wait, strike that, I'll include my donations into whatever we put together. Let's make it a good one.
Edit: oops, just saw there is no bb [strikeout] or [strike]code
I’m a little fussier about where I give my donations. I tend to choose organizations where a big chunk of the money doesn’t go towards “administration costs” ~ I want my hard earned dollars to go where they are intended ~ to people in need ~ and not in some dude’s pocket sitting in an office somewhere. The Lions Club and Shriner’s are great places and I give there every year. The Lion’s Club provides free eye care to anybody in need and Shriner’s provides thousands of orthopedic procedures to thousands of crippled childrenevery year! Completely free to the families. If you’ve ever faced $50k or more for a surgery your child needs, and don’t have insurance to help pay for it, Shriner’s is a blessing. I know I thought so!
I thought you were back in school? Yikes, you are! Using a Blackberry during class maybe, hummm?
Here are several .orgs that rate charities for admin cost and overall worthiness. I linked to several sites to get varied surveys, because pirates abound (as I already posted a thread here) and because yardsticks are different. These are more comprehensive than the BBB.

I only attend classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-9pm. Too far to drive to go in more than twice a week! Otherwise, I'm at one of my four part-time jobs! I switch hats more than... Oh, I don't even know what!
Let me clarify a bit...I am suggesting that the WA Chapter raise funds on behalf of a charity that we choose to support.
While looking in the F@H, myteams.com was referenced, so I checked it out. We can do fundraising with the general populace on behalf of the charity we choose. I am still working out the details, and part of that is getting a response from the chapter members.
There are certain IRS requirements that must be met, but I will work that out as this goes further. I already have all the information necessary, we just have to fashion it the way the Clampers document their chapter fund raising.
Check out both organizations, so you can make a very informed decision. Post general thoughts here, and PM me with specific questions. I will address the issues as they become present.
