Our troops and their families sacrifice for our freedom, sometimes paying the ultimate price. FTE is asking our users to help to give your support for our troops for all they do. Do so more than with words... do it with your time and money.
For the month of March we are asking you to visit your local USO web site, or office to see what you can do to help:
The USO is non-partisan, and is neither "for" or "against" any policies, politics or causes. Its purpose, simply, is in times of peace and war to deliver its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military.
Please use this thread to tell us what you've done during March to support the USO!
Yes, the USO are fantastic folks. I give to them out of each of my paychecks through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). I can remember at least twice my family and I were stranded at the airport for 1 reason or another, in the process of a military move, flight was cancelled, hotels were booked, nowhere to stay until the next flight 30-or-so hours later...The USO always has a safe place for you and your family to crash. Anyone whose ever been stranded in the Philly airport knows that's a big deal.
As I don't have any money to donate. I signed up as a volunteer. Sea-tac and McCord are the closest to me so that is where I signed in at. Waiting for an e mail to see if there is anything I can do to help.
The Delaware Chapter is working on plans right now to have a fund raiser this August at the Dover Air Force Base in conjunction with their Car & Bike Show. Response from the DAFB has been very positive and they welcome our participation.
We are hoping to make this an annual event for the Chapter and FTE. Details will be posted on the Delaware Chapter as plans are being made and finalized.
All FTE members are welcome to attend and support this cause.
FYI, each month FTE will be posting a sticky to support a different charitable cause. The USO is one I feel particularly compelled to support. If someone has a recommendation for a cause contact us privately for consideration - no promises made though.
Were I am in western Massachusetts, we have to military installations. Barnes Air National Guard Base. Home of the 104th fighter wing and Westover Joint Air Reserve Base. Home to the 439th Air Lift Wing. Also home to Army and Marine troops. Military families are all around us. We see them countless times during our days. I have on many occassions thanked them and helped with anything I could.
Every year, one of the two air bases puts on a great airshow. At the airshow the USO always has a amazing display of thier mission. Wonderful examples of their past, present, and future! They always have a nice breakfast FREE of charge. All they ask is for a optional donation. My girlfriend and I had a muffin and some juice. I was so moved by the people in the USO and the veterans who were there just to have a face of thier cause, that I donated every last bill in my wallet. A couple hundered dollars for a muffin or two. Helping those who need it for sacraficing so much, priceless.
The USO is a great support group!...As a young soldier, I remember flying into Louisville in the middle of the AM... I got hot coffee, a danish, and made some friends....Great group!
Spent the weekend at Ft. Benning. Went down to watch my brother, PFC Griffin, graduate infantry basic. 1st battallion 2-58 division infantry, ooooooahh!!!. He left around 1800 to return to base. He starts training for the javellin tommorrow at 0900. Have ya'll seen that thing? That is one awesome weapon. After jav. training he's supposed to go to Kentucky for airborne training, but doesn't know for sure right now.
If any of you get the chance go to a graduation and watch the show they put on. And if you ever get the chance to go to Ft. Benning in columbus GA. get a visitor's pass to go onto base and go to the infantry museum. It's four storie's of our history and very impressive; it is the second largest military specific museum in the country(d.c. has the largest).
I've not experienced such pride to be an american as I did there, and so many young and diverse soldiers excited and proud to protect our freedom's. I for one have never said "thank you" so much.
Does this mean you're gonna step up and volunteer to do something for the USO? :-)
I know you weren't talking to me Ken. But I would like to say that I have e mailed Fort Lewis and SeaTac and offered my services. And have yet to get a response. I realize there may not be much I can do being disabled and this far away. But they are the closest that I can find. And there must be something I can do. Although I know not what.
Thanks for FTE Ken. I don't know how I got along without it.
